How to play Brick Breaker
A ball bounces around the screen and your job is to keep it alive with the paddle at the bottom. Move the paddle with your mouse, the arrow keys, or your finger, and click or press Space to launch. Every brick the ball strikes is destroyed and adds to your score. Clear the entire wall of bricks to win โ but if the ball slips past your paddle you lose one of your three lives, and losing all three ends the game.
Tips & strategy
- Steer with the paddle edges. Hitting the ball off the left or right of the paddle angles it, letting you reach awkward bricks.
- Dig a tunnel. Punch a channel up one side and the ball will rattle along the top, clearing rows on its own.
- Recenter when idle. While the ball is high up, drift back to the middle so you can cover either direction.
- Lead the ball. It speeds up as bricks fall, so move to where it's going, not where it is.
About the game
The brick-breaking genre is a cornerstone of arcade history, growing out of the paddle-and-ball games of the mid-1970s into a whole family of block-smashing classics. Its appeal has never faded: a tight loop of aim, bounce, and destroy, with just enough ball physics to reward a steady hand and clever angles.
