How to play Minesweeper
The 9×9 grid hides 10 mines. Left-click a square to reveal it — and don't worry, your very first click is always safe. A revealed square shows a number telling you exactly how many mines touch it (including diagonally); a blank square means no mines are nearby, so its neighbors open automatically. Right-click — or long-press on a touchscreen — to plant a flag on a square you believe hides a mine. Reveal every safe square to win. Hit a mine and it's game over.
Tips & strategy
- Open the middle first to clear a big starting area and give yourself numbers to work from.
- Use the counting rule. If a "1" touches exactly one unrevealed square, that square is a mine — flag it.
- Clear the rest. When a number already touches its full count of flags, every other neighbor is safe to open.
- Work edges and corners. They have fewer neighbors, which makes their logic easier to solve for certain.
About the game
Minesweeper is a logic-deduction puzzle that became a household name bundled with desktop computers in the early 1990s, though the core idea reaches back to mainframe games of the 1960s and '70s. The beauty of it is that most positions require no luck at all: every safe move can be reasoned out purely from the numbers on the board. It's you, a grid, and pure deduction against the clock.
