How to play Snake
Steer the snake around the board with the arrow keys or WASD โ on a phone, just swipe in the direction you want to go. Guide your snake onto the food to eat it: each bite grows your tail by one segment and adds a point to your score. The board has no obstacles except the two things that end your run โ the outer walls and your own body. Survive as long as you can and your score climbs with every meal.
Tips & strategy
- Think about your tail, not just the food. Before you dive for a snack, make sure you'll have room to move afterward.
- Use the edges. Running laps around the perimeter keeps the middle open and helps you avoid trapping yourself.
- Fill space in tidy rows. As you get long, weave back and forth in a consistent pattern so you always know where your body is.
- Respect the speed-up. The snake moves a little faster each time you eat, so leave yourself extra reaction time late in a run.
About the game
Snake is one of the oldest and most recognizable ideas in video games, tracing back to 1976 arcade machines and made famous decades later as a pack-in game on early mobile phones. Its staying power comes from perfect simplicity: a single rule and a difficulty curve generated entirely by your own growing body. This version runs completely in your browser and saves your best score on your device, so every session is a chance to beat your personal record.
